Importance of Dental Technology

Smile treatment design on chairside computer

In today’s world, constantly changing technology is the norm, and it’s no different in the dental field. The tools we use in our dental office are constantly changing and evolving, making every treatment we provide faster, safer, and more comfortable for every patient we treat. Even more importantly, our digital dental technologies allow us to communicate more clearly with our patients. Instead of us trying to describe your oral health concerns and treatment options, our digital smile design suite makes it possible for us to show you exactly what we’re talking about so you can make an informed choice about your dental care options.

Types of Dental Technology

Advanced technology in dental lab and sanitation area

In order to ensure that every patient gets the high-quality dentistry treatments they deserve in complete comfort, we incorporate all the most innovative dental techniques and technologies. You won’t find another Glenpool dental office that provides a wider range of treatments using advanced technologies than 918 Dentist of Glenpool. Below, we’ve outlined some of the many dental instruments we use on a regular basis to make visiting our dental office a little easier.

E4D Digital Impression System & One-Visit Restorations

Dental team member using E 4 D one visit digital impression and dental restoration system

When we're developing porcelain veneers, dental crowns, and other metal-free dental restorations at 918 Dentist of Glenpool, our dental office uses the E4D technology to take digital impressions of your bite and even craft your restoration during just one trip to our dental office. We will scan your teeth, make an interactive 3D picture of your mouth, and see how your bite fits together all in a matter of seconds. Then, our staff uses the system to plan the required dentition to give your mouth an optimal solution in minimal time. Since the laser technology wraps around angles quickly, we won't miss a thing.

We will then send the plans for your restoration to the milling system located right in our own dental office, which creates your physical restorative piece. E4D only uses the most up-to-date metal-free materials from Ivoclar Vicadent and 3M ESPRE, and two spindles on either side of the machine mill the sides of your fixture at the same time. The machine even selects the proper tool automatically so that your restorative piece is created swiftly and accurately.

ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH® OP300 Maxio

Orthopantomograph O P 300 Maxio x-ray scanner system

The ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH® OP300 Maxio from Instrumentarium Dental is the newest high-tech addition to our dental office. This state-of-the-art machine provides diagnostic information of the entire maxillofacial area. OP300 Maxio provides a larger field-of-view for dental and maxillofacial imaging and reduces the dose of radiation with revolutionary Low Dose Technology™ (LDT). With this technology, we can generate scans that are ideal for sensitive treatments such as wisdom tooth extraction and dental implant planning.

The new expanded 3D view of the OP300 platform allows us to see with visual depth both the upper and lower jaws as well as the upper cervical spine and the sinuses. Being able to visualize these areas is critical during implant dentistry or wisdom teeth extractions, which require either the precise placement of dental implants or the careful removal of teeth while minimizing the impact to surrounding teeth and tissue.

Laser Technology

LAser dentistry technology system

Exciting new laser therapies are available to treat gum disease quickly and nearly painlessly. Dental lasers work by transmitting a highly concentrated beam of light. Patients wear safety glasses to protect against continued exposure to the bright light. The advantages of laser therapy include:

  • Minimal or no anesthesia
  • Little or no pain
  • Minimal bleeding
  • Less swelling
  • Less post-operative discomfort
  • Little to no noise

The lasers used in dental therapy have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are safe for adults and children. Many of the dental lasers are similar or identical to medical lasers used in ophthalmology, neurosurgery, Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT), and dermatology. While lasers don’t completely eliminate the discomfort of dental procedures, they have greatly reduced the amount of pain patients experience.

Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays on computer screen

Digital X-rays are one of the most exciting advances in dental technology. We are proud to offer this technology for diagnoses and treatment planning at 918 Dentist of Glenpool. Digital X-rays have many advantages over traditional X-rays, the most important being that they reduce radiation exposure for our patients and our dental team by up to 90%. In addition, digital images:

  • Are produced much more quickly than traditional X-rays.
  • Can be enlarged, lightened, or darkened to see a greater level of detail.
  • Are easily reproduced and transported, which makes referrals and treatment planning much easier.
  • Allow us to identify and treat areas of decay at a much earlier stage, leading to less tooth loss, smaller fillings, and better overall outcomes.

3D Cone Beam Imaging

3 C cone beam imaging scanner

In order to create complex treatment plans for dental services like implant-supported tooth replacement or orthodontic treatments, we utilize our 3D CT cone beam scanner. This state-of-the-art digital X-ray tool captures high-quality, crystal-clear images of your whole smile or in-depth, three-dimensional scans of single teeth. Traditional X-rays capture two-dimensional images of one section of your smile, which is effective for most dental services, but when you need a more serious treatment plan, these advanced 3D scans give us the ability to see the way your whole smile fits together, and we can use a CT scan to see every angle of a single tooth when planning delicate procedures like root canal therapy.

Water Filtration

Modern dental office with water filtration system

Are you aware that most dental offices do not use any form of water filtration in the dental office? This means that many water-borne contaminants can infiltrate an otherwise successful dental procedure and compromise your oral health with the presence of new bacteria. We use water filtration in our Glenpool, OK dental office, because our team firmly believes in maintaining optimum health and safety for our patients.
